Looking for a SuperCook alternative?
SuperCook is a great free recipe search: tick what you have and it finds matching recipes on food sites. Cheffify does a different job. It looks at everything in your fridge, picks the ingredients that actually go together, writes the recipe, and tells you what it skipped.
Free plan: 5 recipes a week. No card needed.
The short answer
- You want recipes written and tested by food bloggers, not by AI.
- You don’t want to create an account.
- You’re happy to click through to other websites for the method.
- Free matters more than anything else.
- Your fridge is a random mix and nothing matches perfectly.
- You want one complete recipe in one place, with no blog-hopping.
- You cook around allergies or a diet and want them applied every time.
- You want to know what was skipped and what’s worth buying.

How SuperCook works, and where it gets stuck
SuperCook’s App Store listing puts it simply: it “only shows you recipes that require the ingredients you already have.” You tick items from a list of more than 2,000 ingredients, and it searches over 11 million recipes from 18,000 websites in 20 languages. Complete matches come first. Recipes that need one or two more items are grouped separately, and basics like salt and water are assumed.
That works well when your kitchen is well stocked and fairly predictable. Reviewers keep mentioning the same four sticking points:
- Results repeat. If your pantry doesn’t change much, neither do your suggestions.
- Filters are coarse. Diet options cover vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. You can exclude ingredients one at a time, but there’s no saved profile for allergies or tastes.
- The ingredient list is fixed. App reviewers point out missing items like Greek yogurt or oat milk, and loose matches such as steak suggested to someone who has ground beef.
- You cook on someone else’s site. Every recipe opens on a third-party blog, with that site’s ads and layout.
It’s also worth knowing that the latest dated version on SuperCook’s US App Store listing is 2.0.6, from June 2022.
How Cheffify handles a messy fridge
Same fridge, different approach: instead of searching for a recipe that happens to match, Cheffify decides what to cook and writes it for you.
-
Tell it what you have
Type your ingredients, or snap a photo of your fridge. Pin anything that has to be used tonight.
-
It picks what goes together
Cheffify chooses the handful of ingredients that make a familiar dish (a frittata, stir-fry, pasta, traybake or soup) and assumes basics like oil, salt and pepper.
-
Cook, with nothing hidden
You see what it used, what it skipped and why, and the one or two things worth buying. Save it, add it to your shopping list or share it.

Questions people ask
Is SuperCook still free?
Yes. As of October 2026 SuperCook’s ingredient matching is free and works without an account, and its US App Store listing shows no in-app purchases.
Is SuperCook an AI recipe generator?
No. Its website calls it a “Zero Waste Recipe Generator”, but SuperCook matches your ingredients against existing recipes published on other websites. It doesn’t write new ones. Cheffify does: it writes a recipe around the ingredients it picks from your list.
Does Cheffify use every ingredient I enter?
No, and that’s deliberate. Forcing every ingredient into one dish is how AI recipes go wrong. Cheffify picks the ones that go together, shows you what it skipped and why, and lets you pin anything that has to be used.
What’s the best free alternative to SuperCook?
If you want another recipe search tool, Semrush lists MyFridgeFood as SuperCook’s closest competitor. If you’d rather have AI write the recipe, Cheffify’s Free plan gives you 5 recipes a week and DishGen’s free plan gives you 15 credits a week. ChatGPT and Gemini are free too, but you have to prompt them well.
Can I trust an AI-written recipe?
For everyday dishes, mostly, as long as you keep your own judgement switched on. AI can get quantities wrong (a tablespoon where a teaspoon was meant) and is less reliable for baking, canning or anything risky. Cheffify sticks to familiar dishes and shows time and difficulty up front, but if something looks off, trust your instincts.
Does Cheffify have an app?
Cheffify runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen like an app. There’s no App Store or Google Play app yet.
